Previous plan- Studying beach music videos

Me and Alice during our 2 hour media lesson watched and commented on some music videos that were set at the beach. And whether we wanted to include some of the elements we had seen into our music video.

Gorillaz, Plastic Beach.

I liked this remake music video because it had a comic element in it. Also the shots used were interesting. I also liked that there were not that many camera shots so it kept simple.

One Direction, Thats what makes you beautiful

Me and Alice did not like this music video. We liked the idea of focusing on each member of the band in the music video and some of the slow motion. But I did not like the use of fading in to one shot and then into another.

PREVIOUS PLAN- Visual map of the locations we will be filming.

This is  map of the main locations the music video will be filmed at.
The key shows what will happen where.

Previous Enigma ideas

On Friday 27th August Me and Alice met up to discuss ideas about the music video that we will be creating together. Because i found the band i have been in contact with them and we are discussing about meeting up before we start the process of making the music video.

When i started emailing them they were clear that they wanted to star in the music video. In another email the boys had said that they would like to be filmed on the beach.

This is an email sent by James.
"...something along the lines of either filming the band play with all the equipment either outside somewhere or filming just us on the beach..."
James Vivia- bass guitarist/ backing vocals.

While at my house, me and Alice came up with the idea of the band having fun at the beach because the music that was provided sounded relaxing and fun. I came up with the idea of them playing in an arcade and running in the water and Alice came up with the idea of them playing on the sand.

An issue that was brought up between me and Alice was that the band One Direction had already done something similar to our ideas, so we are planning on changing this and making it a narrative music video based around the lyrics.

These are the lyrics to "Weighted Paradise" by Enigma

Sitting by the telephone,
waiting for your call,
only girl on show,
And we got you on the floor,
Right up in the morning,
Let down after four,
Get the bus to paradise,
And that is that!

Chorus X2
Singing on my own,
Singing on my own,
Oh baby,
Singing on my own,

Walking all the way to you,
Just to walk right back,
Get the bus to paradise,
Now that is that,
Traffic lights are flashing,
Telling us to stop,
Want her in the journey,
Forget everything that's right,

Chorus X4

Alice went to see the band play live at the Waterfront in Norwich. She was able to identify the target audience for their music.

Definition of Digipak

Digipak is a style of packaging which is used for CD singles or specail edition CD albums. They usually include one or more plastic tray(s) to hold the CD securley attached to the inside, a book style of either paper board or card stock outer. Digipaks were originally created by MeadWestvaco, and now days are very popular for artists and bands.

The representation of the artist or band's music on the cover usually defines their genre of music. The digipak, music video and brand image usually only create one representation of the artist or band. The digipak is often used to get messages or themes across to the fans.

The Beginning Of Youth Subcultures- The Bowery Boys.

The Bowery Boys were an anti-Catholic and anti-Irish gang who were based North of the  points district in New York city in the mid 19th century.

The very first youth subculture [the Bowery Boys] were portrayed as a negative group.

The Bowery boys are a youth subculture because...

The do have a dress code- The Bowery boys dressed in black high beaver hats, red shirts, black flared trousers, high heeled calf skin boots ad black vests with oil slicked hair. They created a collective identity and chose how to portray themselves.

Rebellion- Most of this group took part in the New York City riots in 1863, they took part in the looting while fighting with rival gangs.

Cultural practices- the crime they were involved in. The peer pressure with in the group.

Conformity- The members conformed to the criminal acts that the group committed.

The marginalised themselves by distancing their dress code and behaviour from the subcultures around them.

Opinion Leader- he was thought to have been a boy called Mose the fireboy according to ''The Gangs of New York: An Informal History of the New York Underworld''.
